Born in Delft in 1977, Christianne Stotijn began her musical studies as a violinist and studied both violin and voice at the Amsterdam Conservatoire gaining her solo diploma for violin in 2000. She continued her vocal studies with Udo Reinemann at the Conservatoires of Amsterdam and Metz where she graduated in 2003 with the highest distinction in both song recital and opera. Udo Reinemann continues to serve as her regular coach together with Jard van Nes and Dame Janet Baker.

Christianne Stotijn has won several prizes including being a finalist in the International Wettbewerb fur Liedkunst (Stuttgart) in 2001 as well as the 2005/06 ECHO Rising Stars and 2005 Borletti Buitoni Award.

"...Dutch mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn teamed up with accompanist Julius Drake to present a concert of songs by Schumann, Brahms, Mahler and Strauss (in German) and Sibelius (in Swedish) as part of the two-week Oxford Lieder Festival... Christianne launched confidently into the first Schumann song and commanded the performance immediately. The style demands much of the singer – apart from obvious mastery of German and Swedish diction - poise, dynamics and acting skills are requisite and, in this case, masterfully executed... Christianne is obviously a singer of the highest calibre and gave an impressive, poised and well-executed performance from start to finish..." Daily Info, Oxford 1810-2004

“Her voice, full-toned, flexible and imbued with individual character, is used with a strong tranche of imagination. Not afraid of risk-taking, she goes for broke in readings that are alive with vibrant treatment of the texts and devoid of any sense of caution. For instance, those twin black-ballads Der Erlkönig and Der Zwerg receive performances that make them both sound new-minted and, above all, display urgent storytelling abilities. The dramatic drive needed there is strongly contrasted with the more reflective approach needed for An den Mond and Nacht und Träume, where her firm legato is borne along on a stream of firm, quiet tone. The wonder of those twin masterpieces Abendstern and Auflösung, both Mayrhofer settings, is aptly conveyed.” Alan Blyth, Gramophone, June 2006
